Toe-to-thumb transplant patient gives doc the finger

A migrant worker who accidentally cut off his thumb isn’t happy with the treatment he says was forced on him by his doctor.

Li Zicheng, a migrant worker in Guangdong Province, China, accidentally cut off his thumb on the job and was taken to Guangdong Huizhou Huiyang Bone-setting Hospital.

There, his doctor insisted on removing his second toe and transplanting it to replace the missing thumb.

Eighteen months later, Zicheng says his foot is now in constant pain, and that complications from the surgery mean his toe-thumb has virtually no functionality.

Now Zicheng is caught up in the local bureaucracy trying to find help in getting treatment, compensation or both for his injuries.
