Survey: Health IT improving doctors’ confidence

Doctors at small and mid-size practices are more confident in their financial future than they were a year ago, in part because health IT has helped increase efficiency, according to a new survey.

Nearly half (45%) of physicians say business is better now compared to a year ago, according to a recent survey from EHR vendor Practice Fusion. In last year’s survey, just 26% said the same thing, while 41% reported doing worse.

This year, an additional 33% reported no change and 14% said business is worse, according to the survey of 1,000 small and mid-size medical practices.

One reason for the increase in confidence: 60% of doctors said technology has made their jobs easier.

However, some big challenges still remain for doctors at smaller practices, most notably:

  1. insurance and reimbursement issues (cited by 69% of respondents)
  2. patient compliance problems (64%), and
  3. practice administration concerns (48%).
