Medicare fraud task force expands, nabs $61M in false claims

A federal strike force announced a double-win against Medicare fraudsters:

This week, thirty people were indicted in Miami, Detroit, and Brooklyn in connection with Medicare fraud cases totalling more than $61 million. The cases were uncovered by a task force jointly run by the Dept. of Justice and the Dept. of Health and Human Services.

The agencies also announced that they will be expanding the force to include Brooklyn, Baton Rouge and Tampa. The force is already active in Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles and Miami.

The expansion is seen as a clear sign that the feds are ramping up enforcement against both individuals and health care providers who are involved in schemes to submit fraudulent claims.
