HHS announces new disease prevention program

The Dept. of Health and Human Services has unveiled a new 10-year agenda to promote good health and disease prevention.

Known as Healthy People 2020, the program is intended to set national goals for health and well-being. Based on input and feedback from public health experts as well as federal, state and local government agencies and the public, the agenda has included key areas, such as:

  • Adolescent health
  • Blood disorders and blood safety
  • Dementias, including Alzheimer’s disease
  • Early and middle childhood
  • Genomics
  • Global health
  • Health-related quality of life and well-being
  • Healthcare-associated infections
  • Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender health
  • Older adults
  • Preparedness
  • Sleep health, and
  • Social determinants of health.
