Doc and cronies get jail time for Medicare fraud

Three men have been sentenced to 2-3 years in prison each for their part in a Medicare fraud scam.

Dr. Howard Grant, Obisike Nwankwo and John Lachman, all from the greater Houston area, were convicted of various counts of health care fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud in a scheme involving Onward Medical Supply.

Onward’s employees submitted fraudulent claims to Medicare, created false patient files, and even delivered equipment such as power pwheelchairs and orthotics to “patients” who neither needed nor wanted them.

In addition to the jail time, the three men will have to pay back more than $1.29 million in combined restitution with several of the co-defendants.
