Therapy needed more often after childbirth then abortion

New research indicates women are more likely to require a first-time visit with a therapist after giving birth than they are after having an abortion.

The results indicate abortion may not take quite the emotional and mental toll on women that many fear.

The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that among women with no previous history of mental disorders, there was no significant increase in the need for psychiatric care in the year after the procedure.

However, among women who gave birth, there was a noteworthy increase in the womens’ need for psychiatric care.
