Six clinics fleece Medicare of $51M

Two operators of Miami clinics have been convicted of fraud to the tune of $51 million.

The clinic operators were found guilty of money laundering, health care fraud, and conspiracy to pay health care kickbacks among other related charges.

Prosecutors said Medicare beneficiaries were paid by the operators to claim that they had received treatments. The clinics then billed Medicare for the “services.” The treatments weren’t actually provided and weren’t medically necessary in the first place, the feds said.

The scam involved six clinics in the Miami metro area. Fifteen other people have been convicted in the fraud and are also awaiting sentencing.
