Good news from the Joint Commission’s latest report on hospital quality: Significant gains were made across the board on key indicators of care quality.
According to the Joint Commission’s report, hospitals have made great progress, including the following vital measures:
- In 2009, hospitals achieved a 95.4% performance score on performing “care process related to accountability measures.” In 2002, the rate was only 81.8%.
- Hospital performance on quality measures in treating childhood asthma improved from 70.7% in 2007 to 88.1% in 2009; pneumonia care improved from 72.4% in 2002 to 92.9% in 2009; surgical care improved from 77.4% in 2004 to 96.8% in 2009.
