Docs perform C-section on woman who wasn’t pregnant

There’s a lot of debate about whether C-sections are used too frequently. Performing one on a woman who’s not even pregnant takes that discussion to a whole new level.

Two doctors at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center performed a C-section on a woman who was suffering from a “false pregnancy.” According to the North Carolina Medical Board, the doctor who made the incorrect diagnosis wasn’t qualified to do so, and the doctor who performed the surgery didn’t conduct necessary exams to confirm the pregnancy.

The board sent  “letters of concern” to the doctors regarding the incident. Both doctors continue to practice.
