Can you use Wii as a surgical tool?

Good news for couch potatoes: New research shows video games can improve important surgical skills.

A recent study found that video games with high visual-spatial demands and visual navigation similar to that of endoscopic surgery improved how subjects performed on simulations of endoscopic surgeries.

The researchers studied two groups: One trained on a standard video game that had visual navigation similar to endoscopy. The other group trained with a game that required using a lot of cognitive strategy, but had a dissimilar visual navigation.

Both groups performed better on the virtual surgeries after playing the video games — but the group trained on the endoscopy-like navigation showed significantly more improvement.
