Apple to release hot new tool/toy for health care pros

If you have any interest in gadgets, you’ve no doubt heard the rumors of a new Apple tablet computer. You may have one on your desk sooner than expected.

Word on the Internet is that Apple has been market testing such a device among health care providers.

It makes sense for the company — and could provide a valuable tool for clinicians to both look up information and perform their day-to-day duties.

While no one knows yet what the tablet will look like or exactly what functionality it’ll have, most theories assume it will be a larger (but still highly portable) higher-powered version of the iPhone or iPod Touch.

It’s expected to have the memory to handle medical-intensive apps, synchronize with electronic health records (EHRs), etc., and still have a screen size large enough for doctors and nurses to input data, make notes, write orders, etc.

When will it come out? No word yet. But tech experts anticipate an announcement soon. We’ll keep you posted.
