AMA survey: The public wants action on Medicare cuts now

Physicians have broad support in their push to get Congress to act on the Dec. 1 cut in Medicare payments.

A new poll shows 94% of Americans are concerned about the cut and the effects it will have on seniors’ access to health services. The poll, by the American Medical Association, was released today at the organization’s semi-annual meeting.

If not reversed by Congressional action, physicians will see a 25% reduction in Medicare payments. So far, about 20% of doctors said they’ve had to limit the number of Medicare patients they see due to already low payment rates and the threat of additional cuts.
